Brock Lesner’s primary trainer, Greg Nelson, has no doubts that the sidelined UFC heavyweight champion will grace the Octagon again, though there is no concrete timetable for the fallen fighter’s return.

“Brock Lesnar is definitely coming back to fight,” Nelson told ESPN’s MMA Live Show “He’s just kind of coming up slowly, trying to get his body ready and being smart with his recovery.”

On Jan. 2, White said Lesnar might have to undergo additional surgery that could keep him out of competition longer than hoped. In response, the promotion announced in early January that Shane Carwin and Frank Mir would meet for an interim heavyweight title bout at UFC 111 on March 27 in Newark, N.J.

Lesnar has yet to comment publicly on his situation, leaving any updates regarding his future up to the UFC and his trainers. Lesnar is known for being a very private person.

“He’s been going in to the doctor and making sure everything’s going well for him,” said Nelson. “He’ll continue to go in for a couple more tests to make sure he’s 100 percent ready to train when he starts up. He still has a few more things to go through.”

Nelson predicted Lesnar would rebound quickly once he resumed his training.

“Being the athlete that he is and just a strong, tough guy, he’s used to dealing with diversity and stuff like that, I think he’ll be able to come back faster probably than people expect, but we’re not going to push the river at all,” he said. “We want him to be 100 percent healthy when he begins to train… I’m sure once he gets going he’ll be at the top of his game real quick.”

Andre Berto Feeling the Affects of the Earthquake in Haiti

Berto is Haitian-American, and he is very concerned about what is happening on the Caribbean island, where a massive 7.0-magnitude earthquake devastated the country on Tuesday. Berto (25-0, 19 KOs) was born in the United States, but his parents were both born in Haiti before arriving in the United States as immigrants and settling in Winter Haven, Fla., where the 26-year-old still lives and trains. Berto has been very active in helping Haiti over the years and has a foundation of his own located in the captial Port-au-Prince. “Andre has a strong Haitian identity and has been involved with Haitian causes for a long time,” said Lou DiBella, who has promoted Berto for his entire career. “His foundation’s office has collapsed and he knows that members of his mother’s family are missing and presumed dead. It’s a bad situation.”

Hatton and Taylor talk about their future in boxing

Ricky Hatton has decided to end his career on a better note following his horrible 2nd round defeat to Manny Pacquiao eight months ago. “I’ve sat down and listened to the people that are close to me and know what I’m capable of,” Hatton said. “We’re looking at the IBF champion Juan Urango, who I’ve already fought and beaten,” the British fighter said. “It’s got to be a top-10 ranked, pound-for-pound fighter or a world champion of some sort.”
Ricky Hatton is currently 45-2 in his boxing career and his only two losses come from Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

On the other hand, Jermain Taylor’s future is more uncertain. He has decided to take an indefinite break from boxing and withdrew from the Super Six Classic Boxing Tournament following a KO loss to Arthur Abraham. Since then, there has been heavy speculation about Taylor’s future in the six-man tournament, especially after Lou DiBella, the fighter’s career-long promoter, resigned over concerns for his health — even though DiBella stood to earn hundreds of thousands of dollars had he continued to work with Taylor through two more guaranteed tournament bouts. The person who will take Taylor’s spot in the tournament will likely to be the winner of a fight between Sakio Bika (28-3-2, 19 KOs), champion of the 2007 “Contender” tournament, and Allan Green (29-1, 20 KOs). Their handlers are working to finalize a fight between the two for Feb. 5 on Showtime’s “ShoBox” series.

It’s a new year!!! 2009 has been great to me for the most part. I actually have an idea of what I want to do wen I graduate college other than boxing, my amateur boxing has been going greater than I ever expected, I have a great new girlfriend, and of course ALOT of great fights have happened in 2009. I saw Brock Lesner actually gain my respect as an MMA fighter, I saw Floyd Mayweather make a comeback and started controversy with Manny Pacquiao, I witnessed the emergence of future stars like Andre Berto, Paul Williams, Chad Dawson, Shane Carwin, and King Mo, just to name a few. I also witnessed athletes like BJ Penn, GSP, and Shane Mosley continue to solidify there dominance in their sport. I hope 2010 is as great or even better than 2009!!!!! Along with a new year I decided to give my page a little makeover, hope yall enjoy it!!!
